Hey, I’m Abel. Eight years freelancing in game dev, mostly technical art (and a bunch of other stuff along the way).
The last 2+ years I worked with a single client, which is a weird thing to do as a freelancer but it taught me a lot. You stop dropping in for a two week gig and start living with a project from concept to ship. Built tools, cleaned up workflows, and spent a lot of time getting a visual style out of my head and into the engine.
Now I’m opening up again.
What I’m looking forward to
- Art styles and techniques I haven’t had an excuse to try yet
- Working with new teams and stealing their good habits
- Taking everything I learned on one long project and spreading it across a few varied ones
- Genres I haven’t touched, the kind that make you rethink how you work
What you’ll find on this blog
- Behind the scenes on projects I’m allowed to talk about
- Technical stuff for other devs
- Process, art, dev, the messy parts included
- The occasional tutorial or resource
- Whatever else I feel like sharing
If you’re building something interesting, need gamedev or technical art help, or just want to talk gamedev, get in touch.
